why foxes?
aside from the fact that i keep seeing them all over the place in times of duress, foxes are a really cool animal.
the cunning trickster in many stories, the fox is a smart animal. the red fox uses its tail for warmth, but it also uses its tail to communicate with other foxes. an omnivore, it hunts mostly small animals like rodents.
the first time i saw a fox, i was terrified, thinking that it was similar to a wolf. especially since the fox was right there beside me! we were at the cottage, so my mom drove me to the library and i did some research.
in many cultures, red foxes are seen to be symbols of:
- cunning
- strategy
- quick-thinking
- adaptability
- cleverness
- wisdom
- passion
- desire
- intensity
- expression
in China the fox symbolizes a messenger from the deceased. in Japan the fox symbolizes longevity and protection from evil. The Celts believed the fox to be a guide.
regardless of your beliefs, the fact that i keep running into foxes in strange places is pretty amazing.
foxes are very cool.
- they actually work together to rear their young by having an "aunt" help the mama fox take care of the babies.
- they have whiskers on their LEGS to help them find their way.
- they have this extra layer in their eyes that reflects light back out so that they can see better in the dark. that's why their eyes glow green when light is shone into them.
- they can run 30 miles per hour!
- they have really good hearing. like owls, they can hear rodents underground.
you are probably thinking that this was a very odd blog post today. why the hell am i blogging about foxes. why do i think that my readers would care?
well ... i don't really have a good answer other than the fact that i was thinking about foxes and how important they are in my life and it was in my head so i wrote about it.
sorry for the boring post. i promise to do better tomorrow.
be kind to yourself,
